Following incremental regulation and increased awareness that environmental issues have financial impacts to businesses in terms of asset valuation, energy and operational costs and commodity pricing (amongst others), there is growing scrutiny and expectation of how environmental issues are managed and reported.rnInitiatives such as the Carbon Disclosure Project have, for some time, identified the requirement to accurately disclose climate risks to comply with legal obligations, reduce the scope for legal action and generate better investor understanding. More recently, financial best practice guidance has been issued, which develops the theme of environmental reporting further. In this article we consider briefly some of the main guidance and developments.
