Wine Importer FinedrnWINE IMPORTATION and distribution company, De Bortoli Wines UK Ltd, has been ordered to pay more than ￡8 300 in fines and costs for failing to comply with waste packaging legislation. Any business handling more than 50 tonnes of packaging a year with an annual turnover of more than ￡2m is required, under the Packaging Regulations, to recover and recycle a percentage of any packaging waste they produce. To comply, a company must either register with the Environment Agency or sign up to a compliance scheme and provide relevant data. By not registering, De Bortoii had avoided costs and fees estimated at ￡5 022.
