Recruitment is a challenging business and the waste management industry faces challenges of its own. This sector is probably one of the most dynamic and fastest growing sectors in the world today. It carries jobs in the public and private, voluntary and third sectors and provides roles that are specialist and generalist in nature. The problem is deciding where to look for prospective employees, whether to look outside the business for a skill and bring it into your sector or to look inside the industry for a person with the skill and experience. Both can work - there are no absolutes in recruitment. Often a business will benefit from bringing new employees (first job graduates) into a business as a "blank" and then moulding them. This is a long-term investment and one that can have a lot of benefits if managed correctly.
