A renewable energy project from Scottish Borders Council will create enough green electricity to power more than 1 000 homes, while cutting annual carbon emissions by the equivalent of 30000 tonnes.rnThe project, at the Easter Langlee Waste Disposal site, near Galashiels in Scotland, will take away the local authority's burden of controlling and disposing of methane from its landfills and has the capacity to generate up to 1MW of clean power for the national grid.rnThe landfill gas generation scheme has been designed, developed, financed and will be operated by sustainable power group, ENER-G.rn"The Council is effectively turning a liability into an asset," said ENER-G Natural Power's managing director, Hugh Richmond.
