Senior industry executives, NGO representatives and Defra ministers have heard that biogas produced from food waste and other organic material could produce enough electricity to power 2m homes. Industry stakeholders met with Defra ministers Phil Woolas, Jeff Rooker and Joan Ruddock to discuss practical ways to overcome barriers to the use of anaerobic digestion in the UK with the help of the ￡10m demonstrator programme announced by Hilary Benn in February.
