The publication of the House of Lords, Science and Technology Committee Report into Waste Reduction highlighted many waste reduction issues, but top of the list was the call for government to extend its efforts on waste reduction from solely making demands of consumers and to concentrate on reducing the high waste levels of companies. The comprehensive list of witnesses providing both written and verbal evidence is testimony to the Committee's wish to hear the views of those beyond the accepted waste and environment community. In addition to the usual suspects (CIWM included) evidence was also provided by the Design Council; the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills; Ecodesign Centre Wales; and the Sustainable Development Commission. The result was that as well as considering the waste hierarchy and waste reduction per se, other issues were included such as design, innovation, technology, manufacturing, eco-labelling, business support and supply chain pressures.
