摘要

Launched in June 2003, the Inter Regional (Interreg) North Sea Programme is a European funding programme that promotes and financially assists international co-operation on common issues, particularly land use and planning matters. Making Waste Work is a project that focuses on sustainable waste management and how waste can be used as a resource, creating employment where possible. The North Sea Programme area includes parts of Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. All of these countries share common waste management issues and problems relating to landfill restrictions, rising waste management costs and recycling targets. At the project's core is the need to reduce landfill so that more sustainable land use can be considered.
