摘要

One of the fundamental roles of a Chartered Institution is to guide the professional development of its members. Consequently, it is the intention of CIWM to play a leading role in the development and implementation of a national policy for education and training for sustainable wastes management within the UK, and to influence the development of such policies overseas. In order to determine the educational and training needs of professional waste managers, the Education & Training Department at CIWM is to undertake a major consultation exercise. The exercise will seek to identify the needs of wasles management professionals and to determine whether these needs are being met at present. In addition, to ensure that wastes management provides attractive career opportunities for today's students, it is vital that clear career pathways within the industry are identified. Moreover, opportunities for training should be available at all levels, from operator to senior executive, and should provide an opportunity for career specialisation where appropriate.
