摘要

What can we do to ensure that an enemy chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) weapon does not have the desired effect? One way to address the issue is by understanding and describing the substance, essence, and nature of the CBRNE threat and understanding how to address it. Using Samuel P. Huntington's concept of a profession as our framework, we need expertise, responsibility, and corporateness.2 To become professionals, we must-1. Educate ourselves on core competencies. While we may not be able to prepare for everything, the Chemical Corps must have a good baseline from which to draw to make intelligent and informed estimates. 2. Articulate our capabilities to supported units and missions. 3. Save lives by providing advice and training assistance to supported units so that they are better able to operate and support missions in a CBRNE environment.
