South African firm Grindrod is to launch a feasibility study into the expansion of Mozambique's only existing coal export facility, Matola Coal Terminal, to 12 mtpa. Work is already underway to increase the terminal's handling capacity to 6 mtpa by September next year, of which 4.5 mtpa will be dedicated to coal and 1.5 mtpa for magnetite. However, Grindrod is keen to provide yet more capacity to serve coal exporters in neighbouring states.
