INAUGURATING the 4th BIS- FICCI-MoT National Conclave on Standards for Technical Textiles, Secretary-Textiles Mr Raghvendra Singh said that Government can consider bringing out mandatory standards for technical textiles items where Indian standards are available. This will not only provide fillip to Make in India in technical textiles but will also improve the overall quality of life in areas like health, environment, security and safety. Mr Singh further said that India needs to develop its own industry for the growing market of technical textiles. India is going to have a very robust market for technical textiles for years to come. Government at the highest level is committed to standardisation and looking at what are the items where mandatory quality control orders could be taken out. There are over 300 items of technical textiles where BIS standards are available, some of these could be the potential items for mandating, said Mr Raghvendra Singh, Secretary-Textiles. He further said that we are looking at how we can get the industry from outside to set up JV or base here in high value-added items where the technologies are licensed and manufactured by very few in the world.
