摘要

The influence of different processing stages on the mechanical and surface smoothness properties of cotton woven fabrics have been studied. Various types of treatments such as singeing, desizing, scouring, bleaching, mercerizing and finishing are carried out and treatedfabrics are analyzed for bending length crease recovery, construction parameters, SEM and smoothness properties using KES-F. The results indicated that after various treatments bending length decreases and crease recovery angle is increases. SEM study reveals that finished fabric surface is cleaner than other treated fabric. Cleaner surface means fabric surface is smoother. The Kawabata study further authenticated this observation. From the KES-F study, finished fabric showed lower coefficient of friction than others. Lower coefficient of friction means smooth surface of fabric. Statistical analysis is also carried out to co-relate the relationship between coefficient of friction (surface smoothness) of fabric and type of treatment given on cotton fabric.
