摘要

The accumulation of non-biodegradable waste in the world is increasing and has become a major environmental concern. The textile processing industry is known for high effluent generation and solid, liquid as well as gaseous pollutant emissions. Efforts are being made towards wider use of textile fibers, which are biodegradable. Thus, the problem of dumping waste materials that happen with synthetic material as well as the space required for land filling or incineration of such waste can be avoided. PLA fiber has potential to fulfill this expectation as it is biodegradable and derived from a sustainable, renewable and abundantly available corn starch which meets environmental impact criteria. PLA is easily dyeable at comparatively low temp than the synthetic polyester and owing to its characteristic properties, it has tendency to produce deeper shades thus further reducing consumption of synthetic disperse dyestuffs.
