Agave americana, commonly known as a Century plant, is an exotic plant, which is widely cultivated in the world for aesthetic purposes. It belongs to the family Agavaceae and in most varieties; the leaf has a white or yellow marginal or central stripe from the base to apex. It is the vegetation of Amaryllidaceous cultivated in North Africa &originated from Central America. Since 1998, the basic fibres of this plant presented the subject of many researches & seemed to be interesting due to their mechanical & physical properties. These natural cellulosic fibres are characterized by a high hydrophilicity,a low-density, a high tenacity & a great extensibility in comparison with other textile fibres. In this paper, we demonstrate various aspects of A. americana fibres & their use in textile industry.
