The present rate of excise duty on man-made fibres and filament yarns at 12 per cent is very high and beyond the paying capacity of 'aam admi' Since additional demand for textiles has to be met by blended and synthetic textiles, the duty must be lightened. In Pre-Budget Memorandum, Federation of All India Textile Manufacturers Association (FAITMA) has recommend that for the entire man-made fibre chain, excise duty must be a flat 6 per cent from man-made fibres and filament yarns to spun yarns, fabrics, made-ups and readymade garments made out of man-made fibres and filaments.
