摘要

WATER repellent treatment of cotton fabric is an important finishing process which prevents penetration of water through the fabric without destroying comfort of the fabric. Water repellent fabrics are used in rain-wear, sportswear, medical bandages, upholstery fabrics for automobiles, head-liners, cover tapes for adhesive plasters, and outdoor activities. In the early 1930s, there was an increased interest in achieving durable water repellency and it has been playing an important role in the apparel industry ever since. This is the fabric's ability to resist to water by forcing the water to bead on the outside fabric of the garment. In reality, water repellency diminishes with time as the water repellent treatment wears off. Also, respect of care instructions can help give the fabric its water repellency a longer life.
