UNION Ministry of Textiles has sanctioned Rs. 245 million to the Mumbai-based Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) for establishing a research and development centre for sports-related textile technologies. The new R&D centre called the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) in Sportech will function in partnership with Reliance Industries Ltd, the Mumbai-based Kusumgar Associates, and the Vadodara-based Kemrock Industries. JCT Industries, the Ludhiana-based manufacturer of sportswear for various brands, has also expressed interest in NCE. ICT, in association with Textile Association, will be organizing seminars across India. It will collect samples of different materials from various places for its R&D activities.
