Arvind Mafatlal, head of the Mafatlal Group died on October 31 at Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh. He was 88. He is survived by Hrishikesh Mafatlal (Son), Chairman of Arvind Mafatlal Group, and Daughter Maithili Desai. Mr. Arvind N Mafatlal , was a legendary industrialist and head of Mafatlal group who played a prominent role in the post-independence growth story of the business in India. An industrial group set up by his grandfather in 1905 primarily focused on textile industry. However, Mr. Mafatlal after taking over the reins of the group in 1954, transformed the group into a large business conglomerate with pioneering efforts to set up chemical, petro chemicals complexes in various parts of India.
