摘要

Development of human society takes place under various forces and compulsions. There are economic compulsions like growing population with commensurate rise in consumer demands, rise in cost of inputs etc; there are ecological and environmental pressures like pollution hazards and depletion of scarce natural resources and finally there are social demands and cultural shifts which are basic to human progress. All this has led to the need for newer, more economic and versatile materials not only amenable to mass production, but also pliable enough to meet specific market demands and to overcome challenges of obsolescence. Fortunately, polymers in their broadest sense and range ideally meet these requirements.
