Engineers respond to the needs of the society with technical innovations. Their tools are the basic sciences. Some engineers might end up working up working on these tools instead of working with them. Environmental engineers are privileged and in challenging position, because these tools are the totality of man's scientific knowledge, and their target is nothing less than human survival through making man's peace with nature. In the natural life cycle of the water bodies, the sun provides the energy source for plant life (algae) which produces oxygen while converting the inorganic molecules into larger organic ones. The animal life obtains its muscle energy (heat) by consuming these molecules and also consuming the dissolved oxygen content of the water.
