Foam in wet textile finishing processes is sometimes a must (for example in foam coating), but very often undesirable. Foam can cause process interferences or spots on the fabric. Common process interferences are floating of the goods on the surface, channelling in dyeing machines, failures of measuring and dosing units, machine stoppages as well as a bad liquor pickup of the goods in case of pad application. Spots can be caused by the deposition of dyestuff distributed in the foam or by the concentration of water-insoluble substances like oils and fats.
