Not all classes of dyes for dyeing cellulosic material are able to achieve the required wet fastness properties (e.g. fastness to washing, water, perspiration, and ironing). Reactive dye is supposed to be able to deliver good all-round wet fastness but in reality, especially for exhaustion dyeing, often cationic fixing is still necessary so as to improve wet fastness properties.
