Hydrigen peroxide is available as a 35% solution in water.These solutions are stable in the presence of sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid.Traces of heavy metals such as gold, silver, iron, copper, magnesium etc catalytically decompose hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide exerts very little or no action at pH 4.5 to 5.5 and thus requires activation to produce a bleaching effect.The principle means of activation is the alkali addition. Under alkaline conditions, an additive is required for stabilisation of the peroxide which is necessary to avoid undesirable rapid decomposition with the loss of bleaching efficiency and damage to the fibre. During the bleaching operation, there is constant fluctuation in the pH, which has to be controlled with the help of stabilisers. However, activators like acetylated amines, acetylated amides, mixed Anhydrides of acetic acid and inorganic acids like phosphoric acid helps in opening up the peroxide ring, thereby carrying out under weakly alkaline to weakly acidic conditions. T.A E.D{Tetra Acetyl Ethylene Diamine} and D.A.E.D{ Di Acetyl Ethylene Di Amine} are classic examples
