摘要

Lycra fabrics have become popular of late not only in India, but the world over. Lycra is an elastomer that imparts stretchability to the fabric. It has superior recovery and shape retention. It is used mainly in ladies wear, sportswear, underwear and fashion articles. It is also known as Spandex or Elastane. Lycra possesses a very high elasticity. It consists of hard and soft segments, mostly amorphous. It also contains high amounts of silicon oil to improve the elasticity. The total percentage of lycra in the blend is very less, and constitutes about 5-10% of the total blend. For example, in polyester/viscose blends, the composition is polyester-65%, viscose-30% and lycra-5%. The common blends manufactured are polyester/lycra, polyester/cotton/lycra, polyester/wool/lycra etc.
