摘要

Though a large number of natural and man-made fibres and their diversified products are in place over the textile arena, silk still commands a considerable respect and its importance in export market of USA and Europe is yet indisputable. Over the last few years, China and India emerged to be the major production centres for various commercial varieties of silk. But there is no doubt that the quality and reproducibility of Chinese silk demand more attraction to those entrepreneurs who are engaged in producing value added silk goods in global market. In order to process in high speed preparatory and weaving machines, silk deserves to reach certain benchmark in quality parameters such as evenness, neatness, cleanness, size deviation, cohesion, tenacity and elongation. Based on its attainment of desired values, raw silk is internationally graded for their effective use in different products such as taffeta, satin, twill, crepe, chiffon & numerous applications in dobby and jacquard designs in ready made garment industry and home textiles.
