摘要

The environmental issues associated with the textile processing are not new. Currently and in the years to come, the criteria that will be used for judging the new processes, to replace the earlier one may be termed as 3E principle i.e., Efficiency, Economy & Ecology. This paves the way for bio technology. Bio technology can be defined as the application of scientific & engineering principles to the processing of materials by biological agents to provide goods and services. Bio Technology is increasingly gaining importance in the bioremediation and in the clean up of polluted environments. This article throws the light on the application of bio technology in various fields of textile processing like desizing, scouring -bio preparation, Enzymatic preparation of peroxides, bleach cleaning , washing offs, denim washings, retting, surface modifications of polyester, biosoftening, degumming, enzymatic waste treatment of cotton. This article also deals with the characteristics and various mechanisms of "Enzyme technology".
