摘要

Reactive colours are among the most commonly used dyes for dyeing of cotton. The consumption of these dyes is on the rise and is expected to remain so in near future. The increase in their popularity is mainly due to their acceptable price, good colour value and reasonable good fastness properties. In fact the only drawback the reactive dye suffer is that of dye hydrolysis. The dye usually gets fixed onto the cotton in alkaline condition but this alkalinity also facilitates reaction of the dye with water causing its deactivation. The deactivated i.e. hydrolyzed dye can not react with cotton and hence there is considerable loss of dye.
