The global warming has not only affected the environment but has also made the textile technologists to rethink their process sequences. In continuous pad-batch Reactive dyeing, sodium silicate is the major component in dye - liquor preparation. Since sodium silicate is a comparatively cheaper product, little attention was paid to this aspect. With the over - all increase in temperatures and continues to do so, it has become essential to modify the dyeing technique. The energy cost is showing an upward trend, pad- batch dyeing has many advantages to other methods of dyeing. Hence it became Imperative to find an alternative substitute to sodium silicate. On understanding the problems and difficulties arising from the use of sodium silicate, research was done at M/s. Sunny Products. We were, then, in a position to substitute the same with use-wise cheaper and more efficient product, namely, Sunny SIL. The major disad- vantages in the use of sodium silicate can be summarized as under.
