摘要

One of the most serious draw-backs of jute as a textile fibre is its yellowing on exposure to light. It has been observed that the yellowness developed on bleached material on exposure to light is much higher than that of corresponding grey material , and the extent of yellowing is almost independent of bleaching agents used and largely dependent on the degree of brightness or bleaching attained. The rate of yellowing increases with increase of brightness. Moreover, the yellowing effect is enhanced due to the presence of mineral oil, which has to be used for making the jute fibres suitable for spinning.
