摘要

After covering ail aspects of pretreatment and dyeing of cotton, we can consider the next step or process, i.e. printing. The origin of textile printing is Asia. It is either India or China. Even though from time immemorial printed fabrics have been produced in India, it is only during the last 60 years that we have adapted to the use of synthetic colours in the printing process. In India, printing by the use of vegetable dyes is still practised, as in "Kalamkari" prints. Synthetic dyes are mainly used for the printing of cotton, silk, wool, etc. The dyes which we have described for use in the dyeing of cotton can all be used for the printing of the same with variations in its usage. Since printing is localised dyeing, the printing process has to use the dyes in a concentrated form to get the desired printing effect.
