摘要

The story of naturally coloured cotton is not new. It started long back around1 5000 years ago. The development of inexpensive dyes in numerous colours and shades pushed it into the back seat. Further, the need of higher output in spinning, weaving and processing made this cotton almost disappear from the com-mercial market. The reasons behind its failure in the commercial market were attributed its low fibre length, the higher micronaire value, a very poor spinnability, non-availability of desired shades and colours, poor colour fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and light and comparatively weaker fibre strength than the normal white cotton fibre.
