Ahmedabad based Sukomo Consultances Pvt. Ltd. in its latest report projected a modest annual growth rate of 5.85 per cent in overall demand for all types of yarns in India till 2005, but with the abolition of quotas by developed countries then may result in a sudden collapse in exports, causing a crisis in the textile industry. Releasing the findings of the study to the press, Sukomo's SK Modi said the exports of particularly garments may fall suddenly by 20 per cent in quantity and by 30 to 35 per cent in value, if corrective steps were not taken five years down the line.
