Polycarboxylic acids have been used as non-formaldehyde finishing agents for cotton fabrics to replace the traditional N-methylol reagents. Finished fabrics with smooth drying properties can be obtained from tricarboxylic acids with proper catalyst selection. Chitosan is incorporated in the finishing bath formu- lation to improve the dyeability of the citric acid finished fabric. The effect of the amount of chitosan incorporated in the finishing bath formulation on the physical properties of the treated fabrics using three levels of oxidized chitosan was studied.
