THE risk of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea remains a very real threat, as ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) warns about the unprecedented number of crew kidnappings in the region.In its recently released annual report, IMB says despite a decline in overall global piracy incidents in 2019, there was an alarming increase in crew kidnappings with more than 90 percent of them occurring in the Gulf of Guinea.
