Edited by Barbie Zelizer, the current president of the International Com-munication Association, this book originated from a one-day sympo-sium held in 2006 at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication, where Zelizer holds the Raymond Williams Chair of Communication. Explorations in Communication and History is the first volume in Zelizer's new series, Shaping Inquiry in Culture, Communi-cation and Media Studies. Since its publication, the series editor has com-piled another volume, The Changing Faces of Journalism: Tabloidization, Technology and Truthiness (2009).
