An existing solution for the problem of torsion of orthotropic laminated rectangular bars is reviewed, and then extended to the case of laminated cross-sections with high aspect ratio. The application to high aspect ratio rectangular cross-sections is important, as it forms the basis for the calculation of stiffness and stresses in torsion of laminated rods with general open cross- section. Calculations are given to show a potentially strong dependence of stiffness and stress distribution on the lamination sequence. Results are also given to show convergence of different forms of the solution, as well as to assess the error when the thin cross-section formulas are used for intermediate aspect ratio geometries.
