Every week I get many emails from readers worried that they've been targeted by scammers. When the number jumped from dozens to hundreds about a month ago, I knew that the crooks had upped their game. Readers were telling me that whereas scams were once easy to spot - emails were appallingly written, cold-callers could barely speak English - now they were almost impossible to detect.
