Apps that could help patients improve their health will be given 'kitemark' awards by the NHS as part of wide-reaching plans to turn the service into a "digital pioneer". Doctors will be allowed to prescribe apps that help patients monitor their own health, such as by tracking their blood pressure or recognising signs of stress. The scheme is part of a Government plan to turn the NHS into a world leader in providing personalised healthcare fit for the digital age. The ultimate aim is that by 2018 every patient should be able to use the internet, on any device, to view tests results, see X-rays, order repeat prescriptions, book appointments and access then-hospital records.
