Desktop video editors certainly have a healthy choice of programs these days. At the top end of the market are some great products from Apple and Avid, while home movie makers and those on a budget are virtually swimming in software aimed at cutting down long, wobbly takes and compiling them into an assemblage of footage, music, effects and titles for output to tape or disc. At the most basic level you can do most of this for free -Windows users have Movie Maker 2 and Mac owners have Imovie. But between the two extremes are dozens of fairly priced third-party video-editing applications that offer a range of increasingly sophisticated movie tuning tools.
