Application development refers to the creation and customization of business applications. Some of these may be tailored, custom applications, while others may be more fundamental to the organization, such as ERP, CRM, or supply chain management. In addition to designing, coding and testing, application development outsourcing can involve working with a service provider that can scope out the development project, suggest features to enhance value and flexibility, and specify system and performance requirements. The service provider also can be involved in application portfolio rationalization, the process of assessing applications for the purpose of consolidation or investment. In addition, the service provider can map out a suitable implementation that minimizes the impact on core business functions.
