Consumers will see a new display interface, DisplayPort, emerge this year that could eventually replace DVI and VGA for connecting monitors to computers. Open and free to use, the standard is governed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) and supported by most major manufacturers, including Intel, AMD, and IDT. DisplayPort will also compete with the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), currently used to link high-definition sources to HD televisions. HDMI is also an emerging standard in computer displays.
