The $829.99 sony VAIO VGN-NR160E delivers the entry-level performance you'd expect for the price, but its design and feature set are lacking compared with low-cost systems we've seen from other mainstream vendors. Our 6.2-pound review unit featured an iridescent silver body made of a tactile, etched plastic. (It's also available in white and brown.) While the somewhat bulky case looks classier than dull black-and-gray budget models, we've seen budget systems from Dell, Gateway, and HP that offer more design flair, something you won't find much of on the VGN-NR160E.
