Welcome to this special issue of the Elsevier journal Computer, Speech and Language (CSL), which is entitled Emergent Artificial Intelligence Approaches for Pattern Recognition in Speech and Language Processing.rnSpeech and language processing studies have a traditional and long history of important facts, and the same holds true when we look at the development of artificial intelligence approaches for pattern recognition and classification. Although many relevant applications have resulted from the advancement of each one of these fields, the techniques still have a long way to be improved for further impacting the scientific community when they are considered together. In the proposed special issue, seven papers focusing on new and emergent approaches for speech and language processing based on artificial intelligence algorithms were selected after three peer-reviewing steps.
