Clare Grant, Women in Mobile Data We all understand the need for cuts in the current business climate but the decision to end the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) funding for the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology is shortsighted. When you have estimates of just 14%-19% of women working in the UK technology sector, it's obvious the gender gap remains an issue. Even people like Google senior executive Marissa Mayer have gone public in encouraging more women to enter careers in technology. But why should the industry even want more women in technology? Aside from the cultural balance women bring, the fact is, women have a successful track record in this space. Cindy Padnos, managing director of VC firm, Illuminate Ventures, recently stated some interesting facts to show the contribution women can make.
