摘要

During a visit to India earlier this month, Pres Barack Obama described the perception that Indian call centers and back-office operations threaten US jobs as an old stereotype that ignores the reality that trade between the countries creates jobs in both. Obama told a gathering of executives in Mumbai that US exports to India have quadrupled in recent years and now support tens of thousands of US manufacturing jobs. With the election over, Obama has signaled a willingness to avoid piling restrictions on offshoring and the H-1B visa program. And Congress' upcoming lame-duck session could give H-1B supporters an opportunity to make gains, particularly through amendments tacked onto pending appropriations bills.
