Feeder operators in Chennai last month imposed a surcharge of USD100 per TEU on containers loaded in Singapore and Malaysiafor Chennai. The Container Shipping Lines Association of India said growing congestion at the port of Chennai was causing severe disruption to ships' schedules, and thereby adversely impacting the trade.
