摘要

Most people regard sustainable building as sensible and neces-sary, although in many cases it is not pursued for cost reasons. This is a fallacy, because sustainable building invariably leads to cost savings when the complete life cycle costs of a building are taken into account. "Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." (Agenda 21, Rio de Janeiro 1992) Each sustainable development has to strike a balance between economic, ecological and social aims. In March 2001, the German Federal Government published "Guidelines for sustainable building" and declared them binding for all federal construction projects. For construction projects initiated by individual states, their introduction is recommended and has already been bindingly implemented by some states. The guidelines are an aid for the design, construction, maintenance, operation, utilisation, conversion and dismantling of buildings.
