Song-swapping application Napster's evolution from hipster service to global phenomenon in 2000 can be seen as the first blow in the one-two punch that now has the music industry doubled over and down on a knee. While many in the biz blame their woes solely on the economy and the proliferation of file-trading sites (after Napster was toppled, Aimster emerged, only to be replaced by current faves Kazaa and LimeWire), outsiders say the industry has shot itself in the foot repeatedly over the past few years.
