Cost saving and increased simplicity are two reasons to use through-hole components in the surface-mount manufacturing process. Through-hole reflow (THR) technology is gaining acceptance by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as an effective alternative for assembling printed circuit boards (PCBs). Increasing market acceptance and the variety of different product ranges have convinced companies to simplify existing processes. Many manufacturers are adopting THR technology to reduce or eliminate secondary hand-or wave-flow-soldering operations. The elimination of this unwanted second step in, the process of PCB assembly is an important challenge faced by many companies in the elec- tronics industry. To save time and production cost, THR is an effective alternative. It is also a great substitute for wave-flow soldering or press-fit technology in PCB mounting. Surface mount technology (SMT) is popular for its ease of operation and mechanical stability on the PCB.
