The use of specially developed IT systems is playing a crucial role in the Facilities Management of Heathrow's £250 million New World Cargo Centre. The recently built NWCC is British Airways' largest ever single investment, outside of passenger aircraft, and is able to handle more than 800,000 tonnes of cargo a year, with capacity to handle one million tonnes to meet the market demands of the future. The contract for the FM programme, which began on 1st January 1999, was awarded to Symonds and is a key element in supporting BA's business aim of becoming totally focused on customer needs and providing a service that matches the needs of the 21st century in terms of quality, speed and performance.
